Spending in the Bearish Economy
I just read a gallup study on how more and more people have gotten into the habbit of saving due to the recession and in fact are enjoying saving.
I have to confess that I have been spending more over the last eight months than saving! My spending spree started with my new job which provided me with a 30% salary increase.
I recently realized that my spending habit has been out of control and that I am very close to living paycheck to paycheck. Something needs to be done! So last Sunday I dropped by Chapters to get advice from personal finance and budgeting gurus to resolve my problem.
No no, I was not there to buy a self help personal finance book. That would be pretty ironic. I am not the kind of person who starts on the saving money by spending more money.
After about half an hour of picking up books on the shelfs I realized that the advice was very generic and it did not relate to my spending habits.
So I decided that I would have to take things into my own hands. I am going to break-down my spending habits and then piece it all back together to work favorably. I am going to start by figure out my spending habits using an excel sheet and my monthly credit and debit card statements.
